Last night Cliff brought this show to my attention and I must thank him for that. If you haven't heard it, it has some really spectacular stuff. The first set is pretty good, but the second is just hair raising with a monstrous Playin' and an epic Darkstar (74 produced some of the best DS's in my opinion) that makes you rethink your definition of reality. Not too busy today? Looking for some vintage early 70's Dead? Click on the link and start you day off right.

Unfortunately there were only something like 8 DS's played in '74. I have to agree that I THOROUGHLY enjoy them all. And you both--Cliff & SDH--are correct in your assessment of this show---it is a monster, though one that both scares & delights you. PITB also was a song that seemed to morph into something larger than itself in '74, as well as DS. I fell in LOVE with the GD Movie version & was stoked when the soundtrack was released. Most regretably, my copy of the 1st CD was in the player in the family wagon that was totaled by my wife last year. I did not realize this when I took the case out before it was towed away & junked, so i am without this portion of the release.

BUT, if you've never heard this U of Montana show, it's well worth your time & effort---you will not be disappointed.

SDH is most welcome!

Don't forget the mini-jam in Scarlet and of coarse the most-excellent WRS.

That 7/25/74 version is one of my absolute favorites! It is about 2 minutes of DS and then 23 minutes of JAM. Unlike a lot of jams at the time, it does not get dissonant at all (it took me awhile to appreciate the atonality of some GD jams). This might have been a version where they did not even get to the lyrics, IIRC...

I don't really like the montana show much. I love the scarlet, the closing NFA, but didn't dig the rest. I prefer other may shows.

Cliff deserves major kudos for this 7/25/74 recommendation.

Am listening now and loving the Row Jimmy, Scarlet, & Ship of Fools....haven't even got to the DS>Slip>Stella yet!

and holy moley, is this Jimmy great! Where was Cliff when Grendel howled out for RJ recommendations?? This one is killer!

This is a great show! I've had it for quite a few years, one of the first boots I got on disc...unfortunatelyy, one of the discs went MIA a couple years ago :(

"Cliff deserves major kudos for this 7/25/74 recommendation."

I do have to disagree with this though...In my humble opion, Cliff deserves major kudos for ALL of his recommendations!!!

:)
